Field Trips: Alexander Ramsey House.

Field Trips: Alexander Ramsey House

Built for Minnesota’s first territorial governor, Alexander Ramsey, this residence—one of the nation’s best-preserved Victorian homes— will immerse you in 1870s life and the spirit of the times.

Ramsey House Tour

Program designed for 6th grade students, but adaptable to students of all ages.

Explore life during the Victorian Age at the fully furnished mansion of Alexander Ramsey, Minnesota’s most prominent early politician. This inquiry-based, guided tour uses artifacts and stories from the Ramsey family, their domestic employees, and indigenous communities to stimulate critical thinking about Minnesota’s past. Through comparisons between past and present, students will examine how the decisions of Ramsey and others shaped the lives of Minnesotans from all backgrounds—and how those choices continue to influence the state today.

One hour tour. Maximum 60 people per tour time slot.
