Field Trips: James J. Hill House
Explore upstairs-downstairs life at this grand 42-room mansion, built for the Hill family in 1891.
Industry & Influence
Program designed for grades 4-8 but adaptable to all students of all ages.
Visit all four floors in the Gilded Age Mansion of James J. Hill, founder of the Great Northern Railway. Through an inquiry-based activity and guided exploration, students will engage in critical thinking to explore the lives of the Hill Family and Staff and how the “Empire Builder” legacy continues to impact St. Paul and the state of Minnesota.
