Depredation claim
A request for money from the U.S. government to repay losses incurred during an instance of plundering; robbery; or pillage often as result of war. In this case referring to claims for money made by settlers for property damaged or lost during the U.S.-Dakota War. The money for these claims was taken out of annuity payments that were owed Minnesota Dakota before the war.
