Description: Photographs owned by the Sibley house which were transferred by Alice Best Rogers, an antique dealer who administered the estate sale of the Whipple home in 1933. Seven photographs specifically relate to Evangeline Whipple. In addition to the photographs, Rogers transferred material culture objects from the Whipple home to the Minnesota Historical Society. Eighteen of these objects relate to Evangeline Whipple.

Description: After Whipple’s second wife, Evangeline Marrs Whipple died in 1930, the objects in the Whipple home were offered for public sale while others remained in the care of the Shattuck St. Mary’s schools. The Science Museum’s collection first was on loan from Shattuck St. Mary’s in 1979. In 2009, the Science Museum embarked upon a five-year agreement with the school to purchase 191 objects cared for over the past thirty years and to preserve them in perpetuity.

Description: Personal and family papers of Henry B. Whipple, Protestant Episcopal bishop of Minnesota, his grandsons Henry A. Scandrett and Benjamin W. Scandrett, who both became well-known railroad executives, and other members of the Whipple and Scandrett families. There are a number of letters from Rose Elizabeth Cleveland to Whipple’s second wife, Evangeline Simpson.

Description: Personal and semi-official papers, including correspondence, diaries, sermons, reminiscences, and other materials, of Henry Benjamin Whipple, the first bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota (1859-1901) and a reformer of the United States Indian service. The papers provide information on ecclesiastical policy, Diocese of Minnesota matters, American Indian missions, government relations with American Indians, and the American Indian rights movement of the latter nineteenth century.
