Hennepin is born in Ath, Belgium and baptized Jean Hennepin on April 7, 1640.
1666
Hennepin is ordained a Recollect Friar at a monastery in Béthune, France.
1675
Hennepin sails to Quebec.
1678
Hennepin is chosen to join La Salle's expedition to explore the Mississippi River.
1680
Hennepin and companions Michel Accault and Antoine Auguelle (Picard du Gay) are captured by a Dakota war party on April 11 or 12.

The captives Hennepin, Accault, and Auguelle are retrieved by Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut.
1681
In the fall, Hennepin returns to Europe.
1683
Hennepin's first book, A Description of Louisiana, newly discovered to the South-West of New France, is published in Paris.
1697
A New Discovery of a Vast Country in America, extending above four thousand miles between New France and New Mexico, is published in Utrecht.

Hennepin publishes his third book, A New Voyage in a Country Larger than Europe.

Hennepin dies.
