Today a peaceful prairie, Birch Coulee was the site of one of the deadliest battles of the US-Dakota War, over 150 years ago.

This site is managed by the Renville County Historical Society.

Your support makes all this possible. Please donate to MNHS to help share the places, artifacts, and stories that keep Minnesota’s history alive.

Hours and admission

The trails are open daily, from dawn until dusk. Trails are not maintained in the winter.
