School Programs

Position Summary: School Programs Greeters work throughout the site, spending a majority of their time in and around the Visitor Center, directing buses, welcoming and helping to unload school groups as they arrive and guiding them to the proper areas of the site per their itinerary.

Time Commitment: Weekly or every-other week from April 9 through May 30. Shifts are 9:00am - 12:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays.  

Responsibilities:
Ensure efficient arrival of school groups to maintain an on-time schedule for all groups. Meet buses in the drop off area, cordially greet school groups and direct the bus driver to the parking area.
Assertively, but respectfully, move groups to their scheduled areas adhering to the times on their itinerary. 
Provide general directions, information and printed material regarding School Programs and the Oliver Kelly Farm buildings.
Use an electric motorized cart to help transport guests if needed.
Moving lunches and materials if needed.
Ensure lunches and belongings are stored in the proper areas and that they are moved to where the group is eating lunch.
Prepare lunch area for groups.  This includes filling water buckets and checking facilities for all required supplies.
Help staff facilitate efficient hand washing and other lunch preparations.
Assist in cleaning lunchroom facilities.
Use a radio to communicate with site staff and volunteers; keep radio on person at all times during shift.

Qualifications: 
Have a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory result on a driving record check
Enjoys working with children, has the ability to assert self; can speak up and be heard, yet talks to everyone in a respectful manner.
Has the ability to stand and walk outside and inside for extended periods.
Enjoys a variety of activities and working as part of a team.
Achieves acceptable results on reference checks and a criminal background check.

Volunteers With 50+ Annual Hours

Volunteers who contribute 50+ hours of service during one calendar year earn free household admission to all MNHS historic sites and museums. These volunteers receive a special volunteer ID card at the end of the year, which can be used as a pass for free admission for the following year.
