The Kit contains:

  • 30 single-use shoulder bags with a pre-printed design by Ojibwe beadworker Cheryl Minnema
  • Additional shoulder bags can be requested, based on classroom or program numbers

Participation rules

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, through its Understand Native Minnesota Campaign, is sponsoring this free MNHS education product offering as a way to support greater awareness, sensitive treatment, and improved accuracy of Native American history, culture, and modern tribal governments in Minnesota’s K-12 education system. 

Beginning on April 18, 2024, and while supplies last, Minnesota K-12 practicing classroom teachers and current Indian Education program staff will be able to complete a web form linked on this web page to request the MNHS education products identified above. All orders will be vetted by MNHS education sales and service staff prior to approval and fulfillment.

In the spirit of making these products available for the benefit of as many Minnesota K-12 students as possible, please limit requests to materials you do not already have. If requesting additional, single-use shoulder bags, order no more than what you will need for the 2024-25 school year. Orders can only be placed by practicing classroom teachers or current Indian Education program staff.
