The Minnesota Historical Society Cooks Up A Recipe for Adventure

ST. PAUL, Minn (June 11, 2025) – Hungry for history? The Minnesota Historical Society is offering A Recipe for Adventure!
This summer, visitors to MNHS sites and museums can get a free cookbook highlighting each historic location. But there’s a twist: the recipes are missing! To complete the pages, they’ll need to collect historic recipes from across MNHS’s statewide network of sites. In addition to the recipes, anyone who collects eight cards has a chance to earn a prize.
Participating sites include:

- Forest History Center, Grand Rapids
- Historic Forestville, Preston
- Historic Fort Snelling, St. Paul
- James J. Hill House, St. Paul
- Jeffers Petroglyphs, Comfrey
- Mill City Museum, Minneapolis
- Mille Lacs Indian Museum & Trading Post, Onamia
- Minnesota History Center, St. Paul
- Minnesota State Capitol, St. Paul
- Oliver Kelley Farm, Elk River
- Snake River Fur Post, Pine City
- Split Rock Lighthouse, Two Harbors
This summer activity is just a taste of what’s coming up this fall! The Minnesota History Center will be hosting Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, an interactive traveling exhibition that explores pivotal moments in Julia Child's life beyond her fame as a television personality and cookbook author. MNHS is also developing an accompanying exhibit called Minnesota Cooks: Small Bites from the Collections that will highlight cookbooks and other food-related items from our collections. The exhibits will open on September 27, and more information will be available throughout the summer.

Julia Child: A Recipe for Life is a traveling exhibition produced and toured internationally by Flying Fish, in collaboration with the Napa Valley Museum, under rights granted by The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts and The Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University, and generously sponsored by Oceania Cruises.
