MINNEAPOLIS, Minn (April 21, 2025) – This Sunday (April 27), more than 1,000 students will be heading to the Minneapolis Convention Center to compete at the National History Day in Minnesota State Contest. More than 19,000 students statewide in grades 6-12 entered their projects in regional competitions, and the top projects were selected to advance to the state competition.
The 2025 theme is “Rights and Responsibilities in History,” and topics range from Title IX and the Equal Pay Act to the Tiananmen Square Protest and the Sister Kenny Institute. View the full list of participating schools and entries here.
Students will be presenting their projects as either research papers, museum-style exhibit boards, documentaries, performances, or websites. Volunteer judges will evaluate their entries and select winners.
The top entries will advance to the national competition in June, which will take place at the University of Maryland, College Park, outside of Washington D.C.
