ST. PAUL, Minn (August 13, 2024) – From new activities to perennial favorites, there will be no shortage of opportunities to engage with history at the Minnesota State Fair! The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) encourages visitors to join in the following activities:

MNHS 175 History Hunt

The MNHS 175 History Hunt celebrates MNHS’s 175th anniversary with 175 unique tasks that encourage Minnesotans to explore the state and learn more about our shared history. Several tasks take place at the Minnesota State Fair. It is a free experience that uses the Scavify app, and there is still time for participants to complete tasks and become eligible for prizes!

History on a Schtick

Returning for its ninth year, History on-a-Schtick is fun for the whole family! The laughs keep coming every day at 10 am and 11 am at the Schell’s Stage at Schilling Amphitheater.

State Fair Historical Walking Tours

Anyone with walking shoes can take a self-guided tour to learn about the history of the Minnesota State Fair. This tour, in partnership with the State Fair Foundation, features three brand new stops this year and a mystery prize for those who complete at least eight stops.

MNHS Booth

Everyone is encouraged to stop by the MNHS booth at the DNR complex from 9 am–9 pm each day of the fair to share what history means to them, take home new prizes (hint: some are laser-focused and loony!), and enter into a twice-daily drawing for a free membership. MNHS members will receive a free gift on Membership Appreciation Day (Aug. 26) and volunteers will get a special giveaway on Volunteer Recognition Day (Aug. 29).

About the Minnesota Historical Society

The Minnesota Historical Society is a non-profit educational and cultural institution established in 1849. MNHS collects, preserves and tells the story of Minnesota’s past through museum exhibits, libraries and collections, historic sites, educational programs, and book publishing. Using the power of history to transform lives, MNHS preserves our past, shares our state’s stories, and connects people with history.

About the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment

Funding for history programs is provided by the State of Minnesota's Legacy Amendment, through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
