PINE CITY, Minn. (January 15, 2025) – Families, history buffs, and fans of winter fun are invited to the Snake River Fur Post’s annual Winter Frolic on January 25. Guests of all ages can participate in activities that helped Minnesotans of the past shake off the winter blues.

During the Winter Frolic, visitors can engage with history and embrace the season with winter games and activities, including tossing a curling stone, playing a round of Ojibwe snow snakes, snowshoeing on the site’s trails, and ice fishing.

The event is also an opportunity to learn about winter travel during the fur trade. Visitors will learn how the 19th century economy thrived in Minnesota and how traders, the Ojibwe, and the voyageurs spent the cold days and nights.

There will also be opportunities to warm up in the site’s visitor center or around a blazing fire with a cup of cocoa.
