MAAHMG Youth Curators Photograph Show During Fall Fashion Season
Putting the skills they learned over the summer to work during the program, three of the MAAHMG Youth Curators worked as photographers during The Denim Experience fashion show, a fundraiser for Lovely’s Sewing & Arts Collective on October 2 at the Machine Shop in Minneapolis.
The youth curators photographed the behind-the-scenes action as models and designers prepared for the show with hair, make-up, and last-minute wardrobe detailing. Then it was lights, camera, action as they photographed the models strut the runway. The experience gave them an opportunity to apply the skills they learned in class to a real-world event. Living New Deal, and Twin Cities Canceled Freeways
December 7 @ 10 am - Minneapolis: Linden Hills History Study Group - During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the federal government under President Franklin Roosevelt undertook a major investment in public infrastructure to fight unemployment and keep the economy afloat. Although it has been over 80 years since those projects were completed, many are still in place, functioning for what they were designed to do. Aaron Isaacs will show us sites in Minnesota. We all know how I-94 and I-35W displaced African American neighborhoods. The impact on the Twin Cities could have been much more pronounced had eight other proposed urban freeways been built. Local historian to be featured in PBS program on POWs in WWII-era Owatonna
Hometown Source — After years educating people on the local level, historian Jerry Ganfield is set to share an overlooked piece of Owatonna history on a wider stage. Ganfield, longtime member and treasurer for the Steele County Historical Society, sat down Friday morning for an interview with documentarians Susan Marks and Matt Ehling, who are producing a program on the history of German prisoners of war in Minnesota for Pioneer PBS.
