About This Event
Join us for a coffee chat that focuses on the Military Intelligence Service Language School (MISLS).
In 1942, Executive Order 9066 was used to forcibly remove thousands of Americans of Japanese ancestry on the West Coast to concentration camps. This same year, the US Army moved the MISLS to Camp Savage in Minnesota, which recruited students of Japanese ancestry to train to be Japanese linguists with a focus on military terms in reading, writing, and translating Japanese.
In 1944, the MISLS was relocated again to Fort Snelling. Learn how these Japanese-American Soldiers fought two wars: one abroad in the Pacific and China/Burma/India theaters, and one at home against prejudice.
