About This Event
Photography & Art at the Rock is a monthly exhibit at Split Rock Lighthouse showcasing local artists and photographers whose work celebrates the natural beauty of Minnesota’s North Shore and beyond.
For the month of October, we are proud to feature Shelley Getten, who has been a printmaker since 2005 when her writer's group hosted a printmaking workshop. All of her art (and poetry) is deeply rooted in our connection to the Earth and its creatures. This connection is what binds us as inhabitants of an increasingly fragile planet.
The exhibit, North Shore Life represents work created since moving to the North Shore from the Twin Cities seventeen years ago. Newest additions to the series include otters, mergansers and more.
Farm images coincide with the recent publication of Shelley's poetry collection, Of Cows and Crows (Nodin Press 2024) in which she attributes her ability to be outdoors amidst animals, forests and rivers, to healing and well-being through a tumultuous childhood.
Getten's show will run from October 1-30. She will be onsite to talk about her work and process on the following dates:
-
Saturday, October 4 | 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
-
Saturday, October 11 | 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
