May 19th 1922

Gen. F. E. Resche,

Duluth, Minnesota

Dear Sir:-
Gilbert H. Stephenson-6598 was received here from St. Louis county January 28th 1921 for the crime of riot. He was paroled March 18th 1922 and sent to Duluth and seems to have gotten on very well until yesterday we received the enclosed letter from him which is self-explanatory.
I have today written Stephenson to call on you and be governed by your advice in this matter. If what he says is true and he is being annoyed by this man there surely is some way to protect him. It may be, of course, that he overstates the case although we found him very truthful and reliable while with us and thought very well of him.
Thanking you for anything you may do in this matter, I am
Yours very truly
